Parking lot tax

There seems to be this uproar regarding churches paying taxes on their parking lot. What we need to keep in mind is that this particular church rented out its parking lot on a regular and consistent basis.  What this means to this particular church, is that this income is considered Unrelated Business Income and needs to be reported on IRS Form 990T.  According to a report in Christian Post  2000 pastors have singed a petition to repeal this law, and as a Pastor myself I would sign it myself if I knew that it affected my church, however what we need to keep in mind is that this DOES NOT APPLY to all churches . I would estimate that it applies to less than 1 % of churches.  Most churches do not rent out their parking lot, or do not use a parking garage or some other form of paid parking
